Most phones store photos taken with the front camera exactly as they appear in the preview. But that means they’re not really loyal to life. Hold your right hand and take a selfie and then look at the photo in the camera. Chances are they will appear on the right, which would be your left hand. In many cases it is fine because there is no real indication that the image has been flipped, but it changes when there are words and other informative characters in the scene.
So how can you prevent it from happening or fix things after it happens? We’ll show you how to flip a selfie photo from your Android phone.
Why is my photo backwards?
When you hold the phone to take a selfie, the picture you see is like looking in the mirror, so it is often called “mirrored”. Though the camera lens sees you in the same way as people looking at you in real life, perceived wisdom is such that being presented with this unnatural view of yourself can be a little worrying: after all, it is not possible to look at each other if you have no experience outside the body. So the image is reversed, it creates a mirror effect and reduces the need for transcendental meditation.
How do I stop the phone from flipping pictures?
The simplest solution would of course be to prevent files from being stored in the reverse orientation. Many Android phones offer this option, but it is usually hidden in the system Settings Menu. Some phones even offer you the choice of whether to save the selfies inverted or not when you take them for the first time.
But assuming you have chosen “mirrored” and now regret it, open Camera applications and search Settings . Sometimes it is a classic gear icon, but it can be three dots while some phones have Settings option. Click any of them on your device.
Now go through the options until you find the option along the lines Mirror photo or Preview images . We found the first one on OnePlus 7 Pro, but the second on Samsung Galaxy S9. Those who use Google Pixel or one of the Android One models that use a clean version of Android (or rather Google’s preferred layout) will find this option as Front Camera Mirror Photos . In all cases, turn off the settings and the selfies will now be stored correctly.
Remember, the selfie camera will still show up to reverse the preview, but the saved version will be in the correct orientation. This also applies to photos taken after changing settings because all previous images have already been saved.
How do I flip a picture on Android?
It’s not difficult to change the mirror image to normal. You may not be able to do this with the built-in photo viewer on your device, but this can be easily corrected by downloading the free Snapseed application from Google.
Run it and open the photo you want to fix. Click the Tools option at the bottom of the screen, then select Spin from the displayed menu.
An icon with two arrows pointing to each other and a dotted vertical line between them appears at the bottom of the display. Tap this and you should see how your image turns back to normal orientation. Click the check mark icon in the lower-right corner to save your changes and you’re done.
