In addition to the upcoming end of support for Windows 7, users of older versions of Microsoft operating systems are waiting for another sad message. Microsoft decided to shut down its Internet board and card games. Scheduled termination will affect Windows 7, Windows XP, and Windows Me users.
The end concerns games Backgammon, Lady, Heart, Reversi, Spades and MSN Go . Specific end dates vary depending on your operating system version. The Engadget server, which reported on the upcoming end, is of the opinion that this is another attempt to get users to switch to the latest Windows 10.
The final station. Please get out!
The owners of computers running Windows XP and Windows Me will lose access to their favorite games first. All games, with the exception of MSN Go, will stop working in just two weeks – specifically 31. July 2019 .
Windows 7 users – Backgammon, Checkers, Hearts, Reversi, Spades and MSN Go will be able to play them a bit longer than 22. January 2020 one more week after the official support for this version of the operating system ends.
Microsoft notes in the community forum that the move to end games is with a heavy heart and a difficult decision on its part. On the other hand, this development is understandable – for example, Windows XP ended support in April 2014, more than five years ago.
There will be new gaming experiences, but on Windows 10
“It is time for us, together with our hardware and software partners, to invest our resources in newer technologies so that we can continue to bring great new experiences. Players can play games up to the dates above when game services will be closed and the games listed will no longer be playable .
Of course, the reason for termination is security. Online games could theoretically be exploited for penetration on older systems.
“Although we are sad at the end of this chapter, we remain committed to providing engaging and enjoyable gaming experiences. We hope to take this trip with us and join the community of any other Microsoft casual game. ”
